So a while ago I was looking on different Facebook groups and pages, to see where I could post about my book when I came across a post. This post was written by Daniel White, about the cartoon that he was trying to promote. So on the off chance he might reply, I decided to message him for any advice he had in terms of promotion. Now this was a good year or so ago, and Dan and I have become friends through our pursuit of the same goal. We both want to try and get characters representing disabilities into the media in children's books and TV programmes etc. Why do we both want this? Well, Dan agrees with me that children with disabilities need to have characters to relate to, just as me and you can. Not only that, raising awareness of the strengths, unique qualities and general amazingness of these children can never be a bad thing!
So anyway.... Dan created Billy, Claypole, Azazztaz and Pawsy, all members of the 'Department of Ability ', led by fierce, fearless leader Emily!
So the picture above is 'Emily' the leader of the DOA, based on Dan's lovely daughter Emily! Emily is 9 years old, and is very speedy in her own Wheelchair, playing wheelchair basketball and football! She is Dan's inspiration and from all I have heard from him, she sounds hilarious!!
So why Post this now?
So Dan, his wife Aimee and lovely Emily have made some great progress and have been on BBC radio this morning! I spoke to Dan via facebook earlier today and he informed me that not only had they been on the radio, but later today they will be on TV (again with the bbc!). Now this is huge progress, and I wish them all the best for the future!
